The European Cancer Plan aims to make better use of data and digital technologies in research to understand and reduce the burden of cancer. Aggregated data from the European Cancer Information System (ECIS) provide an essential foundation for monitoring cancer, supporting health policies, and advancing oncological research.
These data are supplied by population-based cancer registries within the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR). However, to ensure comparability and enable interoperability among registries, the data must be harmonized in terms of quality, completeness, and timeliness.
The focus of Work Package 6 (WP6) is to improve the quality of data produced by cancer registries through targeted strategies. These include the development of updated and innovative quality control tools, as well as providing support, training, and methodological guidance to enhance the required endpoints.
The outcomes of WP6 will lead to more robust and reliable PBCR (Population-Based Cancer Registry) data and improved data accessibility, ultimately increasing their use and impact at the European level.
