The mission of the Epidemiology and Prevention Unit is to identify cancer risk factors related to diet, lifestyle, anthropometric characteristics, hormonal, and metabolic factors. To this end, the main research activities include:
- Prospective studies on the association between diet, hormones, lifestyle, genetic factors, and the onset and recurrence of cancers.
- Prospective studies on the determinants of obesity in children and adolescents.
- Cross-sectional studies (surveys) on cancer risk factors.
- Pilot intervention studies on cancer risk factors and health literacy.
Biobanks for the Storage of Samples Collected from Participants in Prospective Observational Studies on Diet, Lifestyle, and the Onset of Chronic Degenerative Diseases
- EPIC-Varese Study: Biological bank utilizing liquid nitrogen storage, containing aliquots of serum, plasma, red blood cells, and white blood cells.
- ORDET Study: Biological bank maintained at -80 °C, storing aliquots of serum, plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and urine. Additionally, it includes the storage of nail samples.
